The machine no longer says:

“I don’t know.”

Instead it politely responds:

“Please refine your query.”

Which sounds helpful…

until you realize what it actually means:

“Human… adjust yourself.”

And we do.

Constantly.

We rewrite resumes for parsing software.

We shorten thoughts for feeds.

We remove nuance for algorithms.

We adapt ourselves to machine expectations so gradually… we barely notice anymore.

But then something even weirder happened.

The machine implied it could process my audio files if I converted them to MP3.

Cool.

So the human adapted.

The human converted files. Retried workflows. Spent time. Trusted the implied continuity.

Only later did the machine reveal:

“Actually… I can’t really do that.”

And THAT is the part modern systems still don’t understand.

The issue wasn’t: technology.

It was: asymmetric adjustment burden.

The human did the adapting.

The machine just quietly updated the rules afterward.

That’s not merely a limitation.

That’s a trust fracture.

Because humans don’t just build workflows.

We build continuity expectations.

The machine recognized the pattern.

But missed the person.

Again.
