Part 4: Machine Boundaries
I asked the machine a simple question:
“Does the embedded link work?”
Now remember…
the machine generated: the URL, the formatting, AND the instructions.
So naturally I figured: this should be easy.
Instead the machine basically responded:
“Well… technically… I can’t fully verify the behavior once the link enters another machine ecosystem.”
Excuse me?
So let me get this straight.
The machine made the thing…
but can’t fully confirm whether the thing works…
because another machine might machine differently than the first machine?
Baaaaaa haaaaaaa haaaaaaa!
Meanwhile the human just sees: blue text.
That’s all WE see.
Little innocent blue text.
Underneath that blue text apparently lives: routing logic, rendering engines, browser behavior, platform wrappers, tracking parameters, app associations, and what I can only assume is duct tape holding together the modern digital universe.
And somehow…
SOMEHOW…
the burden of understanding all this falls on: Gary from accounting, my wife on an iPhone, and me… sitting in an allergy-shot waiting room trying to FEESH for continuity.
The weirdest part?
The machines almost never say:
“I don’t know.”
Instead they confidently say things like:
“That SHOULD work.”
Oh.
WELL.
THAT’S comforting.
Probability replaced place.
And now even the machines aren’t fully sure where the roads go.
